An exciting opportunity has become available for a Shop Assistant to work at Villawood Immigration Detention Centre. In this role, you will support the Canteen Coordinator to ensure smooth and efficient operations in the canteen. This is a casual position. We require full flexibility for this role and the ability to work weekends.
As a Shop Assistant you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Utilising and understanding localised till sales point systems
- Ensuring customer’s points are updated prior to recording sales and updating customer’s records to reflect accurate spend allowance
- Packing and recording of stock to deliver to customers in other secure locations
- Maintaining stock levels, replenishing, and cleaning sales areas as well as assisting in monthly stock takes
- Ensuring compliance with Serco and DIBP/FDSP Codes of Conduct, policies and procedures.
- Ensuring the shop is open for business at the required times and that excellent service is provided to all customers
- Being efficient and organised with goods, as well as receiving and handling invoices

You are proactive, adaptable, and committed to maintaining high standards in all tasks, ensuring a positive experience for customers and colleagues alike. To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- Proficient in Microsoft Officer suite, particularly in Excel and Word
- Proven experience in delivering high-quality customer service with a friendly and approachable demeanour
- Strong ability to work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive work environment
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage various tasks and maintain a clean and orderly canteen
- Excellent communication and numerical skills
- Prior experience working in a canteen, cafeteria, or similar food service environment is highly desirable
