As a Qualified Gardener, you’ll play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our horticultural assets to meet and exceed contractual standards. You will engage in hands-on gardening work, working with a dedicated team to ensure all garden works are performed to a high standard and in a safe manner. This full-time role involves a variety of tasks from planting and pruning to lawn care and machinery operation, all aimed at enhancing the beauty of Melbourne’s public spaces.
As a Qualified Gardener in the Horticultural Team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Ensuring all horticultural tasks are carried out professionally and safely
- Maintaining plants, trees, and lawns in a healthy and presentable condition
- Performing garden bed preparation and planting, as well as lawn area preparation and seeding
- Operating small machinery and power tools such as drills and jackhammers safely and effectively
- Monitoring and reporting any defects in plant and equipment promptly

To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- A Trade Certificate in Gardening/Landscaping or equivalent experience
- A current driver’s licence
- Experience in parks, gardens, or landscape maintenance
- Strong knowledge of plant care, including watering and pruning techniques
- Ability to identify and control weeds, pests, and diseases
- Awareness of occupational health, safety, and environmental standards
- A completed qualification in Horticulture and/or Conservation and Ecosystem Management (Desirable)
- Demonstrated experience maintaining biodiverse native vegetation landscapes (Desirable)
